The lecture will address features of Greek history and
society that have contributed to the current political and economic crisis.
Thanos Veremis has long played a prominent role as an
advisor to the government on educational matters and as a public intellectual
who regularly comments on current affairs in Greece in newspaper and journal
articles in both Greece and abroad. He was most recently quoted in an
article in the October 9 issue of the New York Times about an
emerging scandal that is threatening to bring down the present coalition
government.
